| September 2004 Newsletter |
The planting day held on July 24th was a success and we would like to thank everyone their time and effort.
People from throughout the neighborhood showed up to add more than 70 plants and bushes and repair fences.
Children enjoyed the petting zoo while their parents pitched in to make our neighborhood even more beautiful.
Thanks also go to Legislator Vivian Viloria-Fisher, for getting us grant money, which helped defray the cost
of the plant material. The petting zoo and refreshments were compliments of the association. Contributions from
residents and Donna Memoli of Coldwell Banker R.E. also helped fund this event. We hope you enjoy the additional
foliage and look forward to any suggestions you may have for making it more attractive.

| Agenda for September Meeting... |
A community meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, September 30, 2004 at 7:30 pm at the New Village Recreation Center.
Currently, we have two items on the agenda for the upcoming meeting. The first will be the taking of nominations for the
board positions of both Secretary and Treasurer. Anyone with an interest in filling either of these positions, or anyone
wanting to nominate someone for either position, should plan to be at the meeting to do so.
The second item on the evening’s agenda will be discussing the plans for renovating the entranceways at Wireless and
Hawkins Roads. At the meeting we will be presenting the designs that have been done by the Town of Brookhaven and will
begin to discuss a timeline for completion of this project.
We hope to see as many of you as possible on Sept. 30!

Do you have a neighbor who is a senior citizen? Could they use some neighborly assistance? The winter months are coming and
we would like to present an idea that may help a senior neighbor cope. It wouldn’t take much time, but ideas like checking
in on someone after a severe storm, power outage, or heavy snowfall can help make a difference.
A snowstorm could keep a senior from getting out of their home and buying groceries, prescription medications or even getting
their mail. A senior shoveling their own snow could also injure themselves. The idea is simple and can be done either of two
ways. The first is to simply be cognizant of any seniors in proximity to your home and provide help whenever you can. The
second is to sign up for a snow emergency list. The list would be used to create groups of neighbors who could go out and make
sure our seniors can get out of their homes without injuring themselves in the process. A list of seniors can also be created
with a priority towards those who live alone. We are sure much of this is already happening in our community, but maybe a group
of volunteers can help make sure we get to more of our seniors during the coming winter months. The volunteers can be adolescents,
adults, male or female. Let us know what you think of this idea and if you can volunteer.
