The association meeting held on April 13, 2004 was lively and informative. First and foremost on the agenda was saying
farewell to our president, Barry Bienen. Barry and his wife are now enjoying their new lives in Florida. There have been
some significant changes in the Executive Board. Old friends have moved on, and new volunteers have stepped in to fill their
roles. At the April 13 meeting, nominations were held for the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
The Board is pleased to announce that Eddie Forrester, our former Treasurer, has been elected as the Board’s new President. Eddie,
the sole nominee for the position of President, has been an active member of our community and the association for many years.
Along with his previous role as Treasurer, Eddie has been a volunteer with various clean-up projects and has assisted in the
development of our five parks. Eddie looks forward to creating a greater sense of community in our neighborhood and is anxious to
hear your ideas.
Ted Nienburg has been selected to fill the role of Vice President. Susan Grossman was also nominated for the position, but has
since withdrawn.
The positions of Secretary and Treasurer have no current nominees. If you have an interest in being considered for either of
these positions please contact Eddie or Ted.
Longtime residents and newcomers alike are encouraged to consider taking a position on the board.

Meet The Advisory Committee...
The Advisory Committee was created to serve the South Setauket Park District in an advisory capacity. The committee advises
on expenditures of funds for any invoices incurred by the District and determines new projects to be funded by our taxes.
The members of the Advisory Committee are: Steven Amato, Denise Cariello, Patti Keane and Ted Nienburg.

As has been mentioned before, and is obvious to each of us everyday as we enter our community, the old South Setauket Park
signs at the Wireless and Hawkins Road entrances are in serious disrepair and need to be replaced. We have gotten some support
from the Town of Brookhaven on this project. The Town has given our association access to a landscape architect who will be
providing us with some design possibilities. Using this resource will save the association significant money, which can then
be applied toward the construction costs. Once the board has obtained the design ideas, a community meeting will be held to
go over the suggested designs and the funds available for this project. Thanks go to Linda Petersen, Brookhaven Town’s Commissioner
of Special Districts, for her invaluable help in obtaining access to the landscape architect.
In the meantime, steps have been taken to enhance the curb appeal of the entranceways. Thanks to a generous contribution by
Donna Memoli, new flags and Welcome to South Setauket Park banners have been purchased and hung at the entrances.
Our landscaper, T.P.F. Landscaping, has begun turning the planting beds and started fertilizing treatments. The landscaper
is also paying special attention to improving the island at the Hawkins Road entrance.

More New Faces Mean More New Ideas...
Fun and exciting things happen when more and more members of a community begin to get involved. New ideas and fresh
perspectives come together to create a newly-energized community. People who have never been involved, working alongside
longtime residents, are now working toward a common goal, a greater sense of community spirit. Already many ideas have
surfaced, with many more on the way. Some of the ideas currently being discussed include…
Who’s Watching Your House?...
Many communities in our area have an active community watch. Not only does a neighborhood watch serve to protect your
most valuable asset, your home, it also enhances the sense of community spirit by having neighbors come together to protect
each other’s property.
Since South Setauket Park covers a large area, one idea would be to divide the neighborhood into “watch zones” with each
zone having a leader. Zone leaders would work with his or her neighbors in coordinating watches. In addition to alerting
authorities of any suspicious activities, neighborhood “watchers” could contact the Board if a streetlight goes out,
thereby ensuring it gets fixed in a timely manner. If you will be going away for a few days, you could alert your zone
leader that your house will be vacant for a period of time. Your leader and “watchers” will be happy to drive by your home
each day and ensure that newspapers are not piling up on your front lawn, a sure sign that no one is home!
Anyone interested in becoming active in a community watch should contact Eddie or Ted.
Sell Yourself...
Do you have your own business you would like to promote? South Setauket Park Homeowner’s Association would like to help
increase your business. For a small fee, which would go directly into our community’s account to help fund community projects,
you soon will be able to buy a directory-style listing ad which will appear in our community newsletter. From contractors,
plumbers and electricians, to dog walkers, baby sitters and more, our community is rich in resources ready to be utilized.

Next Association Meeting...
Summer is a hectic time for everyone. Between taking family vacations, planning backyard barbeques, weddings, family reunions
and maybe even setting aside some time to just relax, it’s hard to find a good time to hold a meeting that many people can attend.
With that in mind, the association plans to hold its next meeting in September, with a date and time to be announced toward the
end of the summer.
In the meantime, if you have any ideas, concerns or want to get involved in any way, please feel free to contact a board member
over the summer. And, although it is not an official meeting, please feel free to use the July 24 planting date as a chance to
come down and meet new people and discuss community ideas and issues.

Community Begins At Home...
There has been a significant turnover of homes in our area recently. We welcome all homeowners and their children, longtime
residents and newcomers alike, to participate in our community events. The Executive Board serves as an outlet for the collective
voice of our community and we welcome all suggestions, ideas and participation. We look forward to meeting and working with all of
you in our effort to revitalize our sense of community. The Executive Board values each and every resident’s opinion and we are
anxious to hear from each of you.
Thank you, in advance, for your suggestions, ideas and participation. Separately, we are simply 671 homes living in close
proximity to one another, together we can be a strong and vital community. The Board looks forward to meeting as many of you as
possible on July 24 and helping to make your ideas for our neighborhood become a reality.
